Exposure (AI and jobs)

A measure of how many of a job's tasks AI could in principle perform or speed up, not a forecast of job losses.

Exposure studies break occupations into tasks and estimate which ones current or expected AI systems could do or make substantially faster. A job is called "highly exposed" if many of its tasks fall in that group.

Exposure is a measure of potential. It does not say whether employers will adopt AI, whether workers will be replaced or made more productive, or whether demand for the job will rise or fall.

Headlines that turn exposure figures into "jobs at risk" or job-loss forecasts go beyond what the studies measure.
