Glossary
Feasibility study
An early, limited study of whether a plan can practically be carried out, before a larger commitment.
A feasibility study asks whether something can be done, not whether it works well. In medicine, a feasibility study tests whether a tool or trial design can be used safely and practically with real patients, usually in a small group, to prepare for a larger trial. In energy and construction, a feasibility study examines the engineering, cost, and permits for a proposed project.
Feasibility studies are a normal first step and produce useful information about problems to solve.
They are frequently reported as if they were results. A successful feasibility study shows that a larger study or project can go ahead, not that the tool is effective or that the plant will be built.
