Small modular reactor

A nuclear reactor design that is smaller than a conventional plant and meant to be built largely from factory-made parts.

Small modular reactors (SMRs) are nuclear reactors designed to be smaller than traditional large plants, with standardized components built in a factory and assembled on site. Supporters hope this will make nuclear power cheaper and faster to build.

Several technology companies have signed agreements with SMR developers to supply future data centers. Most SMR designs are not yet operating commercially, and each needs regulatory approval, fuel supply, and a site.

An SMR deal typically describes power expected years from now. Check whether it is a firm purchase agreement, an option, or a feasibility study.
